While attending the 2012 Shot Show, our Vice President Tim Gelnett and Western Sales Manager Frank Cox, attended a special dinner hosted by Spartan Blades and others at the Dal Torro Ristorante in the Palazzo Hotel. As you can see from the photos below they really enjoyed themselves!

Frank Cox, western sales manager for Niagara Specialty Metals came back from the 2012 shot show with some interesting news! Spyderco is now making a production version of a Phil Wilson designed knife made out of CPM® S90V called the Southfork. Most production companies have trouble working with CPM S90V because of its high vandium carbide content, but Spyderco has developed their machining and grinding capabilities to the point that they can handle the most difficult of machined steels. They are even eager to try CPM® S110V, which is harder to machine and grind than CPM® S90V.

How cool is that? We can’t wait to hear how they make out with the CPM® S110V!

With the help of Benchmade® Knife Company, a group of the ex-Air Force Emergency Service team members have come up with a unique way to help one of their own. They will be selling two special edition Benchmade® knives with all proceeds going towards sending one or more active duty Air Force Emergency Service members to advanced training. Their logo and special edition numbering will be printed on each knife. A truly wonderful way to show their support for their country, the U.S. Air Force, and their team.

Who is Niagara Specialty Metals? The simple answer:

Niagara Specialty Metals is a manufacturer of tool steels, high speed steels, martensitic stainless steels, powdered metals and controlled expansion alloys including aerospace grades.

Our company is built around manufacturing customized orders of difficult to obtain metals. We offer fast, factory direct delivery of small or large quantities, custom rolled and cut to your specifications.

But who are we really? That answer is more complicated!

(that is some hot metal!)

Let’s talk about the heart of Niagara Specialty Metals, our people. We have a diverse group of employees with a wide variety of expertise.

Most of our employees are in it for the long haul. Some have been with us as long as 30 years plus and provide us with a wealth of knowledge, yet still continue to learn each day they are on the job. Everyone gets really excited about trying out new machines, techniques, grades and we are constantly trying to improve our process. Sometimes with a lot of success and sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned……but I’ll get back to that later!

From the start all the way to shipping you can tell that the people of Niagara Specialty Metals feel great pride in being the American steel worker.

I plan on talking about a day in the life of Niagara Specialty Metals, and giving you some cool, exciting and funny first hand stories.
